The Employees Provident Fund (EPF), also known as Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP), is Malaysia’s national retirement saving scheme. It is a mandatory savings plan designed to help private-sector employees accumulate funds for retirement through monthly contributions from both employers and employees.

One of the most important aspects of managing your EPF savings is keeping track of your contributions and account balance. This is where the EPF statement comes in — it provides a detailed overview of your transactions, including monthly contributions, dividends earned, and withdrawals (if any).

Thanks to i-Akaun, the official online platform of EPF, accessing your statement has never been easier. Instead of making a trip to a physical branch, members can now conveniently download their EPF statements online anytime, anywhere.

Whether you’re applying for a loan, preparing tax documents, or simply monitoring your retirement savings, having access to your latest EPF statement is essential. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process to download your EPF statement online — quickly, safely, and hassle-free.

What is an EPF statement and why is it important

What does an EPF statement include

An EPF statement is an official record issued by the KWSP that details the status and history of your retirement savings. It serves as a financial snapshot of your EPF account and is crucial for anyone looking to manage their long-term financial health. It serves as an essential document that provides transparent and up-to-date information on your EPF contributions and account status.

Balances for Account 1, Account 2, and Account 3

  • Account 1: Reserved strictly for retirement and can only be accessed under specific conditions (e.g., retirement, disability, death).
  • Account 2: Can be used for approved purposes such as education, housing, and healthcare.
  • Account 3: A relatively new feature introduced for flexible withdrawals.

Interest / dividend earned

  • The annual dividend declared by EPF based on the fund’s investment returns is reflected in each account accordingly.

Contributions made by employee and employer

  • Each monthly contribution is itemized, showing the respective amounts from your salary as well as your employer.

Withdrawal history

  • A complete record of withdrawals made under approved schemes or categories (e.g., housing, education, i-Lestari, i-Sinar, etc.)

This statement gives members a clear picture of their retirement preparedness and financial discipline, making it a powerful tool for financial planning.

When do you need it

Your EPF statement isn’t just for your own peace of mind — it’s also a vital document in various personal, financial, and legal scenarios. Here’s when you’ll typically need it:

For loan applications

Banks and financial institutions may request your EPF statement as part of their credit evaluation process, especially for housing or personal loans. It gives them an overview of your financial stability and savings discipline.

For tax filing

While EPF contributions are tax-deductible (up to a certain limit), having your EPF statement helps when you’re filing taxes or verifying the total deductions made. It also provides a record in case of any tax-related audits.

For retirement planning

Your EPF statement shows you how close you are to your retirement goals. By tracking the balances in Account 1, 2, and 3, and the dividends earned, you can plan how much you need to save and whether to consider voluntary contributions.

For checking employer contribution accuracy

Mistakes or delays in employer contributions can happen. Your statement allows you to verify monthly payments from both your employer and yourself, ensuring everything is up to date and accurate.

To help you understand what to expect when you download your EPF statement, here's a simplified layout that mirrors the key sections of the actual document:
